International Design Competition on Passenger Shelters

Guidelines

Street furniture is one of the landmarks of a city. It provides visitors with their first impression of the City and enhances the image of the neighborhood.

In Ghana, and in the cities in particular passenger shelters (bus stops) are among the more remarkable landmarks of city’s landscape. A passenger shelter is special because it is an inevitable part of the routine of the daily life. In view of the social function of everyday transport, a well designed shelter will impart a feeling of comfort and trust.

Intention

The intention of the design contest is to explore ways by which passenger shelters can be used effectively in the urban environment. A passenger shelter should be aesthetically appealing and in keeping with the feeling of the dynamism of a city.

Eligibility

Architects, designers, engineers, artists, artisans and students, working in the field of design, product development, construction and manufacturing are invited.

Proposals centered on the nature of the material used are very welcome. Whatever the used material may be, it should be used in a manner that stimulates the imagination and hints at abundant possibilities.
